BACKGROUND
TRAFFIC International is a charity and limited company registered in the UK. TRAFFIC’s head office, based in Cambridge UK, provides worldwide leadership, coordination, cross-regional and corporate functions. TRAFFIC’s local engagement is managed through programme offices operating under the auspices of the UK charity, with staff based in a hub office and at other strategic locations where necessary. Programme offices operate within a geographic area of responsibility focused on one or multiple countries where TRAFFIC aims to help deliver priority programme outcomes. TRAFFIC works in strategic alliance with IUCN and WWF on wildlife trade issues.
We partner with the FairWild Foundation (www.fairwild.org) to promote the sustainable harvest and trade of wild plants, fungi and lichen, and support uptake of the FairWild Standard and certification scheme worldwide.

The salary for this role will be between £ 22,840 and £ 27,500 p.a (pro rata), depending on skills and experience.
JOB DESCRIPTION
On behalf of TRAFFIC and the FairWild Foundation, the FairWild Company Engagement Officer works on expanding use of FairWild certified ingredients and the FairWild label. The candidate’s main responsibility is to help FairWild expand certification scheme participation, by increasing member engagement and promoting its expansion to more businesses thereby delivering conservation and social benefits during commercial collection of wild plants and fungi.
In collaboration with the FairWild Executive Officer and the Communications and Marketing Task Team, the candidate will focus on helping brand companies – those selling tea, cosmetics or foods and wishing to make their supply of wild products more sustainable – to find the FairWild products they need; and likewise assist FairWild ingredients suppliers in finding buyers. In addition, they will work on improving existing communications approaches that support FairWild market development (website and other tools), and certification scheme operations.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Promoting FairWild to relevant brand companies and supporting uptake
• Identifying candidate companies and maintaining an overview of contact history
• Liaising with company representatives about potential FairWild participation
• Guiding brand companies in buying FairWild ingredients or establishing certification projects in their supply chains
Matching potential producers and buyers of FairWild ingredients
• Connecting brand companies with potential ingredient suppliers by phone or email
• Setting up a regular ‘matchmaking’ mailing list for potential buyers and sellers
• Supporting ‘matchmaking’ events, or other B2B meetings
Supporting the operation of the FairWild certification scheme
• Liaising with current participants to increase engagement and expand their level of involvement
• Supporting aspects of scheme communications, administration and data management
Communications and website as FairWild marketing tool
• Maintaining and improving the FairWild website and newsletters with industry-relevant information (available ingredients; company participation)
• Support FairWild communications, including preparations around key events (e.g. trade fair exhibitions; FairWild week) and development of new communications tools.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Essential
• Master's degree (or bachelor’s degree combined with relevant experience) in a field such as business sustainability, natural resource management, corporate social/environmental responsibility;
• Strong communication abilities, including for example promotion/sales and client management experience;
• Attention to detail and sensitivity to issues of commercial confidentiality;
• Ability to work independently and under pressure, set own work priorities, self-motivate; and a capacity to meet deadlines;
• Fluency and excellent writing skills in English, with competency in any additional languages being an advantage;
• Expertise in MS Office computer software applications, website editing;
• Must be eligible to live and work in the UK.

Desired
• Experience with the private sector and/or certification schemes in the area of natural or fair traded products
• Experience with mailing list software Mailchimp
• Experience with website design and/or management
• Basic graphic design skills including experience with Adobe InDesign
• A willingness and ability to travel, and ability to periodically work outside of regular office hours due to time-zone coordination
