Description

We are looking for an Environmental Protection professional to work in our Service Delivery Directorate who is able to provide a high standard of professional specialist advice and support to ensure compliance with legislation, professional codes of practice and adherence to policy.

This is an important role, serving an area experiencing significant growth and development, with some interesting and complex challenges for environmental protection and safeguarding the health of the population.

The successful candidate will have one to two years’ experience and knowledge of: contaminated land, air pollution, and related environmental protection issues such as Environmental Permitting Regulations and noise control; relevant legislation; practices/methodologies; experience in the use of monitoring equipment; providing consultee advice on planning applications. In addition, the role will involve providing expertise on statutory nuisance and general environmental health work, such as statutory licencing and public health.

Applicants will be educated to a minimum of A Level standard/NVQ 3. A degree in a relevant subject is desirable, as is membership, or working towards membership, of a relevant professional body.

You must possess sound investigative reasoning skills and be able to collect, analyse and interpret data and have a passion for environmental sciences and public health. We are looking for a professional who has an ability to empathise and communicate sometimes sensitive and technical information in a way which the public can easily understand. You will also be required to demonstrate an ability to manage competing priorities and remain calm, even when the pressure of workload is high. Strong IT skills and a willingness to learn about the latest techniques, software and scientific methodologies are also essential.

If you would like to have an informal discussion regarding these opportunities, please contact Bret Willers, Lead Specialist Environment on 023 8068 8324.
