Description  

You will be responsible for implementation of the environmental components of the NERC’s approach to sustainability and associated reporting. You will work closely with the NERC Social Responsibility Reporting Manager and Head of Sustainability to ensure delivery of a holistic approach to sustainability at NERC. The challenge will be to find ways to sustain our world-class science and operations (including NERC research ships, aircraft and Antarctic bases), while using our skills and research experience to enhance our positive impact on the environment and minimise harm associated with our operations.

You will be part of a leading team that will demonstrate NERC leadership and drive by helping to develop, implement and champion NERC’s approach to sustainability. You will drive continual improvement in how we manage and use environmental data and ensure compliance with government environmental reporting, turning our long-term ambitions for environmental sustainability into deliverable targets and action plans.

You will need:

  • Professional qualifications and/or membership and experience in an energy management/sustainability field, together with demonstrable experience of current thinking and best practice in corporate responsibility and environmental management (including but not limited to ISO14001, ISO50001, BREEAM and the Carbon Trust Standard, environmental auditing)
  • To be a member of IEMA or an equivalent professional body recognised by the Society for the Environment
  • Demonstrable knowledge of environmental/CSR legislation and associated statutory reporting requirements
