CDP is seeking a highly motivated individual with experience and interest in energy, data analysis, corporate climate change accounting and modeling to join CDP’s Technical Team. A key component of the role is assisting in adapting, adopting and applying a methodology for estimating scope 3 use of sold product emissions for oil, gas and coal. The position holder will also support in other data cleaning and modeling exercises with the end aim of providing a high-quality, complete climate change dataset to investors, policy-makers and other stakeholders to make more informed decisions.

Responsibilities

* Work with the CDP Technical Manager (Data) and other project stakeholders to re-shape an existing methodology to be able to estimate Scope 3 use of sold products for fossil fuels;

* Ensure thorough documentation of methodological enhancements for internal and external review;

* Gather and store relevant data from diverse external sources, registering all meta information,  for application of the methodology; ? Develop and apply algorithms to model the use of sold products emissions;

* Extract, transform and load data from and into CDP’s data warehouse;

* Liaise with CDP’s oil & gas technical expert to ensure company awareness and buy-in of the methodology and end estimations;

* Serve as point of contact for stakeholder feedback on the methodology and application thereof and update/respond accordingly;

* Support in the further identification and update of CDP response outliers through statistical methods;

* Apply other models for estimating Scope 1, 2 and other relevant 3 categories and assist in the upkeep and enhancements to these;

* Any other tasks as deemed appropriate by the line manager.

* Communication skills; ability to interact with a large team, collaborate and share knowledge;

* Highly competent in spoken and written English.

Qualifications and work experience

* Min. 2 years working experience;

* IT skills, namely familiarity with standard programs for data analysis such as Excel, R, SPSS, Stata, etc.; experience with databases and knowledge of SQL is an advantage; 

* Ability to document work to a high standard, maintain documentation, write reports and establish procedures; ? Keen interest in sustainability issues and use of data as a means to solve them, in particular climate change and/or energy issues;

* Knowledge of fuels, energy products and the fossil fuel industry and experience in related energy work considered a strong advantage;

* Knowledge of programming languages is an advantage; 

* Familiarity with modeling approaches namely in the frame of GHG national inventories, inputoutput models, econometric models, LCA, corporate inventories and/or other modeling approaches is an advantage;

* Familiarity with GHG inventories with some previous experience in doing them is an advantage.

The successful candidate will report to the Technical Manager (Data) and will work closely with several other internal teams in CDP as well as external stakeholders. The role is for 5 days per week, preferably based in London or New York City. Start date is a.s.a.p.
