Description  

We are currently looking for a talented and motivated Ecologist to join our team in Chelmsford.  In this role you’ll be responsible for:

What does the role involve?

You will prepare ecological surveys and associated mitigation from inception through to completion, analysing and interpreting survey results, as well as undertaking preliminary ecological appraisals including detailed habitat surveys to accurately describe and map habitats and assess their potential to support notable/protected species. 

You will prepare protected species licence applications and undertake detailed surveys for legally protected species in accordance with best practice guidance as well as producing a range of ecological reports to a high standard.  You should be used to checking and approving ecology proposals and reports for both technical robustness and branding along with managing enquiries and preparing competitive bids and tenders.   There will also be a requirement to consult and assist with achieving points relating to land use and ecology for sustainability assessment such as BREEAM. 

To be successful in this role you’ll possess:

A degree in Ecology, Environmental or Earth Sciences or a related discipline, along with CIEEM membership.  You will hold a great crested new survey licence and have some experience of great crested newt mitigation (and desirably mitigation for other legally protected species).   You will be familiar with conducting preliminary ecological appraisals, ecological impact assessments and surveying for a range of protected species including bats, reptiles and plants.  You will have experience in acting as an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) during site works as well as excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
