Snowdonia National Park Authority protects the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of Snowdonia National Park. Covering 823 miles of diverse landscape, the Park is home to over 26,000 people, the highest mountain in Wales and England and the largest natural lake in Wales.

We’re now looking for an Ecologist to join the Snowdonia team and provide expert biodiversity and ecological advice on a fixed-term contract.

The Role

As an Ecologist, you will join the planning service and ensure that we conserve biodiversity, protect species and statutory designated sites and handle a range of other nature conservation matters.

Your role will involve:

  • Providing professional and timely ecological advice on planning and development issues
  • Providing ecological advice on planning applications, pre-application enquiries and other development proposals
  • Assisting with the statutory Development Plan, Supplementary Planning Guidance and other policy issues
  • Where relevant, working with other Local Planning Authorities (LPA’s) across the North Wales region

About You

To be considered as an Ecologist, you will need:

  • The ability to communicate in both Welsh and English
  • A degree in a relevant scientific, biological and/or land management subject
  • An awareness of National Park purposes
  • An understanding of the planning and development process
  • A good understanding of current ecological issues and legislation, particularly in relation to planning and development issues
  • The ability to write clearly and concisely
  • A good level of computer literacy and confidence in the use of Microsoft Office software
  • Experience of using GIS
  • Membership of relevant professional body

Experience in ecological land management would be beneficial to your application. Some experience of working with statutory protected species, in particular bats – including mitigating development impacts, would also be advantageous.

Project management skills and experience would be equally desirable, as would good working relationships with other organisations and experience of using Cofnod.

Other organisations may call this role National Park Ecologist, Consultant Ecologist, District Ecologist, Planning Support Ecologist, Wildscapes Ecologist, or Planning Ecologist.

Fel Ecolegydd, byddwch yn ymuno â’r gwasanaeth cynllunio ac yn sicrhau ein bod yn gwarchod bioamrywiaeth, yn amddiffyn rhywogaethau a safleoedd dynodedig statudol ac yn trin ystod o faterion cadwraeth natur eraill.

Bydd eich rôl yn cynnwys:

  • Rhoi cyngor ecolegol proffesiynol ac amserol ar faterion cynllunio a datblygu
  • Rhoi cyngor ecolegol ar geisiadau cynllunio, ymholiadau cyn ymgeisio a chynigion datblygu eraill
  • Cynorthwyo gyda’r Cynllun Datblygu statudol, Canllawiau Cynllunio Atodol a materion polisi eraill
  • Lle bo hynny’n berthnasol, gweithio gydag Awdurdodau Cynllunio Lleol eraill (LPA’s) ledled rhanbarth Gogledd Cymru

  • Lefel dda o lythrennedd cyfrifiadurol a hyder yn y defnydd o feddalwedd Microsoft Office
  • Profiad o ddefnyddio GIS
  • Aelodaeth o’r corff proffesiynol perthnasol

Byddai profiad mewn rheoli tir ecolegol yn fuddiol i’ch cais. Byddai rhywfaint o brofiad o weithio gyda rhywogaethau gwarchodedig statudol, yn enwedig ystlumod – gan gynnwys lliniaru effeithiau datblygu, hefyd yn fanteisiol.

Byddai sgiliau a phrofiad rheoli prosiect yr un mor ddymunol, yn yr un modd â pherthynas waith dda â sefydliadau eraill a phrofiad o ddefnyddio Cofnod.
