North and East Yorkshire Ecological Data Centre (NEYEDC) is recruiting two permanent Ecological Data Officers to join our small and supportive team in delivering our aim of understanding the natural world through data gathering and analysis.
Based at our offices in Dunnington near York, you will work with passionate ecologists within the organisation to carry out the varied work of an accredited Local Environmental Records Centre (LERC). You will also help to develop and maintain positive relationships with external organisations from industry, the public sector, NGOs, academia and the wider biodiversity community including volunteer natural historians and ecologists.
We are looking for individuals with a fascination for data, an eye for meticulous detail and an ability to use data to tell stories and enthuse stakeholders. Ecological Data Officers play a central role in creating and maintaining large datasets that are used on a daily basis by planners, land managers and conservationists to inform decisions that directly impact nature. In the first instance, you would be working on the update and maintenance of the Ancient Woodland Inventory or the Local Wildlife Site Registers.
Ecological Data Officers also need to be adaptable and innovative. They help to conceive and deliver a wide range of NEYEDC projects from Citizen Science to Policy Development. Candidates with experience of organising field surveys, using historical data sources or manipulating large spatial datasets using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) would be particularly welcome.
A passion for and knowledge of the natural environment of North and East York Yorkshire and an understanding of the functions of a Local Environmental Records Centre are an advantage.

Salary: £20,897 - £24,191 depending on skills and experience
Employment basis: Full Time, permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, with flexible working by negotiation.

Pension: Stakeholder pension with 5% employer pension contribution
