Description

North and East Yorkshire Ecological Data Centre (NEYEDC) is recruiting an Ecological Data Officer to join our small and supportive team in delivering our aim of understanding the natural world through data gathering and analysis.

This permanent position is an opportunity for the right person to help influence the decisions that affect conservation and land management in North and East Yorkshire through the provision of high-quality ecological information. Based at our offices in Dunnington near York, you will work with passionate ecologists within the organisation to carry out the work of a local environmental records centre and with external organisations to deliver innovative projects.

Working on projects, with an initial focus on the revision of the National Ancient Woodland Inventory in North and East Yorkshire, you will provide support to senior members of staff in all aspects of project development and delivery. In addition, you will be working on the collation, management and dissemination of NEYEDC’s data holdings, with an emphasis on streamlining these data pathways.

We are looking for an organised and meticulous data manipulator, with a knowledge of data management tools such as GIS and R, who can work alongside our existing data management team. You should have experience of biological data management and analysis and be able to turn your hand to data communication and public out-reach in this challenging and varied role. A passion for the natural environment of North and East Yorkshire and an understanding of the functions of a Local Environmental Records Centre are an advantage.
