Job Title: Dover Area Landscape Project Officer

Contract type: Fixed term contract to Feb 2024

Salary: £25,209 to £27,040 dependent on skills and experience

Closing Date:  27th January 2023

Interview Date: 6th February 2023, Tyland Barn, Maidstone

Based at: Tyland Barn, Maidstone, and Dover area

Globally and nationally wildlife is in steep decline. We appear to be reaching critical tipping points around the loss of biodiversity as well as around climate change, both being interlinked. Human society cannot prosper without wildlife and healthy ecosystems.

Kent’s wildlife needs to be restored to much higher levels. We can no longer allow common things to become rare. We can only do this by restoring large-scale natural habitat areas and processes. Doing this will contribute to solving global problems. But we won’t be able to do this unless we publicly aspire to a higher level of impact and show that we can deliver this.

The Job: We are looking for a Project Officer to deliver nature conservation work in the Dover area. You will be responsible for delivering countryside management on Kent Wildlife Trust nature reserves, local authority land, and private farmland using local contractors and volunteers to restore chalk grassland through conservation grazing and scrub management. You will also develop engagement opportunities with local farmers and landholders through workshops, surveys, and local events to support livestock grazing as a conservation management tool with which to improve biodiversity and soil health.

You: You will be experienced in countryside management in a nature reserve context and understand the principles of livestock management and conservation grazing using large herbivores. You will have experience working with farmers, landholders, and volunteers to support nature conservation action, and delivering public engagement activities. You will be effective at building positive relationships with different teams across different functions within Kent Wildlife Trust and with external partners to enable project delivery.

Kent Wildlife Trust is the leading wildlife charity for Kent and Medway, supported by its members and staffed by committed professionals.  Join our team and help us create a Wilder Kent! In return we will inspire you, listen to you, value you, treat you equally and fairly, look after your health and wellbeing and encourage flexibility from day one, enabling you to draw on these benefits to be a better, happier and more productive you.
