Description

Summary

A rare opportunity to contribute in an amazing way to the long term conservation of the world’s critically threatened habitats and their endangered species. World land Trust (WLT) has a vacancy for the Director of Conservation who will work with a small, dynamic and knowledgeable team within its UK office and with the WLT’s wider alliance of conservation NGOs across the world. Exceptional capabilities on many fronts are required.

Working with WLT

WLT is unique within the conservation world. With a track record of 27 years, it started as a vision for a new model of conservation and has developed its modus operandi without losing that vision, integrity and transparency.  WLT has been instrumental in the purchase and long term protection of millions of acres but does not direct projects from the UK. The partnership with the WLT’s conservation partners is paramount and is seen to be a unique way of securing habitats in creative and innovative ways which last into the future.

What you’ll be doing

You will be leading the UK team, building relationships and a deep understanding with overseas conservation partners and other conservationists on existing land purchase and protection projects, while developing and negotiating new partnerships and conservation programmes in line with the vision and strategic plan that drives WLT and its ethos.

Requirements within this post are many and challenging and will include contributing to funding strategies and maintaining a plan and budget for delivery of the conservation programmes in line with the strategic plan. Monitoring progress towards strategic targets and working closely with the CEO, Executive Team and Board of Trustees to achieve WLT’s aims. You will also support other key staff in securing funding, grant writing and reporting and inspiring current and new support including individuals, corporates and grant giving bodies.

Who we’re looking for

The successful candidate will be unique.  We need a proven track record within conservation, at an international level and a thorough understanding of REDD+ and all aspects of carbon offsetting. You will demonstrate excellent leadership and team development skills, be able to manage complex negotiations, understand cultural differences and have an ability to take a creative approach in negotiations. An ability to inspire and speak with confidence, while listening and learning.  It goes without saying that you need people skills second to none and can work as comfortably with the team in the office as you can with the WLT Board, our overseas NGO partners and other key stakeholders.

To apply: Full details of the job description and person specification, and instructions on how to apply can be found by visiting the WLT website: http://www.worldlandtrust.org/about/vacancies/director-conservation. Please ensure you fulfil the formal qualifications and requirements before applying.

Interviews will be held WLT’s offices in Halesworth, Suffolk, in the week commencing 21 August 2017. Please indicate in your application if you are likely to be unavailable on any of the key dates.  Candidates who have been short listed for interview will be asked to prepare a short presentation.

Please note that the closing date given is a guide. We reserve the right to close the vacancy once we have received sufficient applications.
