Description

Organisation Overview

Blue Ventures develops locally-led approaches to marine management that benefit people and nature alike. By listening and responding to basic needs, our models are designed to catalyse and sustain marine conservation, unlocking the potential of coastal communities to manage their resources.  We work in places where the ocean is vital to local cultures and economies, and are committed to advancing the rights of small-scale fishers throughout the coastal tropics.

Summary Job Description

We’re looking for an experienced digital developer to join our UK-based central team. The successful candidate will be a motivated, proactive and highly organised individual, with a desire to harness technology to help drive marine conservation and community development. We are seeking someone with an adaptable, entrepreneurial and pragmatic approach, who is willing to explore new approaches and is committed to creating open source digital products to help drive social change.

You’ll be highly experienced in delivering digital solutions to complex problems, with proven project management experience. Ideally you’ll have experience coding mobile apps using React or similar frameworks and be expert in the development of WordPress based websites, regularly coding custom plugins and templates. You will have deep knowledge of managing and manipulating databases, producing intuitive user interfaces with controlled access and delivery for multiple stakeholder groups. You’ll be very familiar with, and comfortable extending, the main WP ecosystem solutions (e.g Gravity Forms) using relevant hooks, actions and filters and linking relevant APIs.

You’ll have a deep understanding of how the digital landscape is evolving and will be excited by the opportunities of using technology to drive Blue Ventures’ impact and accelerate our work helping coastal communities better manage their resources.

You’ll be confident to take responsibility for delivering multiple development projects, using an Agile approach which delivers timely outputs and iterates improvements, working closely with our conservation, finance, development and human resources teams to ensure co-production of systems relevant to the people and places where we work. You’ll be comfortable having a high degree of autonomy to make decisions in a fast-paced and supportive environment.

The position will report to the Head of Digital and work closely with digital and monitoring, evaluation and learning teams.

The evolving nature of the organisation will give the right candidate exceptional opportunities for innovation and original thinking when approaching tasks. Blue Ventures is a fast growing and mission-driven social enterprise, offering excellent opportunities for further professional development.
