Description

‘Business as usual’ is destroying our planet. But it is possible to live well without harming nature. From renewable energy to ecological farming, change is afoot – governments are just too slow to embrace real solutions.

We are looking for an experienced, motivated deputy director to support the executive director and political team in developing and implementing strategies that challenge the EU to forge a sustainable path, preserving the environment for future generations.

Your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide support, leadership, supervision, and direction to our political team, ensuring performance goals are set and met;
  • In collaboration with the executive director, guide Greenpeace’s wider European operations;
  • Represent the organisation at senior level in interactions with the EU institutions, European civil society organisations and other strategic allies;
  • In coordination with the executive director, provide guidance for programme activities at EU level, including investigations, public engagement, and non-violent direct actions;
  • Act with full delegated authority on behalf of the executive director in his absence;
  • Other duties as requested by the executive director.

Your skills and qualifications include:

  • A strong desire to contribute to the protection of the environment and to political change;
  • Proven record of establishing and maintaining supportive work environments;
  • At least five years of proven management experience;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including team building, collaboration, conflict management, and a sense of humour;
  • Good networking and negotiating skills;
  • At least three years of experience in high-level political advocacy;
  • Experience in public campaigning;
  • Good knowledge of the decision-making processes of the EU;
  • Self-motivation, stress-resilience;
  • Strategic communication and media skills;
  • Very good spoken and written English, and fluency in at least two other EU languages.

What we offer:

  • Work within a dynamic and committed political campaigning environment, collaborating with a network of colleagues and offices committed to transformational change;
  • Team-spirit and a friendly group of colleagues in our Brussels office;
  • Responsibility, support, and trust;
  • Active contribution to the protection of the environment and to political change;
  • Competitive salary and benefits.

Application information:

Please email your application to european.unit@greenpeace.org and address it to Mr Stef Van den Eynde. Please write "Application deputy director" in the subject line.
