Description  

Cornwall Council’s Natural Environment service has a Coast and Countryside team that are responsible and accountable for the management of specific functions including Countryside, Public Rights of Way, Trails, Country Parks, Beaches and Coastal areas. The management functions include policy and strategy development, bid writing, programme and project management and engagement with stakeholders.

The postholder will be part of a multi-functional team that helps the Council meet its statutory requirements and embraces the best practice to ensure value for money and consistency in service provision across Cornwall.

The Major Projects Officer will support the Countryside Team leader, acting as client officer for the management, development and delivery of a number of strategic projects from inception to completion, including the investment in the Councils County Parks.  

These projects will support the Countryside team aims conserve and enhance the natural environment assets maintained by the Service. This will involve exploring opportunities to secure funding, to manage and develop Partnerships and volunteer groups, to manage associated capital budgets and to establish stable working relationships both in the private and public sectors.


The post holder will be expected to represent the service and the council to external partners and stakeholders and develop collaborative relationships which can bring about a positive change in the way which we deliver services and wider benefits to local communities.


They will support members and work in partnership with stakeholders to develop and deliver the aims and objectives for the service, ensuring they are aligned to the wider vision and priorities for Cornwall, articulated and delivered through the relevant Service and Council Plans.


They will work with partners to protect, maintain, manage and improve the quality of Cornwall’s Countryside for all to safely access and enjoy.
