Background

Work with guidance from National Project Director (NPD), UNDP country office, project steering committee (PSC). And for FRESA; work closely with BML

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review the areas in the project logical framework that requires further work, verify about their usefulness and address the issues identified during the midterm evaluation Report. (E.g. section 4a and 4b section in the Project Document) and if required set better targets and indicators and Identify data or information required to measure the indicators.
  • Measurement of CO2 emissions and other GHG produced by fossil fuel
  • Gather and review literature on existing C02 emissions data due to energy production (including water desalination) in the Maldives.
  • Based on the above review, establish new baselines figures for C02 emissions due to energy production (including water desalination) in the Maldives.
  • Advise on feasible and easily available sources of verification for future reference of annual trends.
  • Prepare a report on the above findings and recommendations. 
  • Growth in Renewable Energy based power generation in the Maldives.
  • Gather and review literature on existing energy supply and demand in the Maldives with special emphasis on the available statistical data including but not limited to the Annual Energy Statistics series developed by the Danish Energy Consulting Network.
  • Based on the review identify information gaps on available data. Information gaps may include the total power installation of RE applications (landfill gas, solar PV, wind and water desalination) in Male’, outer islands and resorts.
  • Undertake a survey to fill in the information gaps. It is required in this review to also take into consideration the solar applications utilized by telecommunication companies (i.e. solar panels utilized by Dhiraagu).

Required Skills and Experience

  • Relevant training in social sciences, economics or statistics
  • Proven experience in organizing surveys (experience in energy surveys would be an asset), i.e., ability to draft questionnaires, implement consumer research surveys, compile results and analyze data
  • Strong linkage with agencies, private sector and development agencies in Maldives and good networking skills
  • Good knowledge of statistical analysis and experience with relevant software packages
  • Familiarity with energy issues
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Excellent English reading, speaking and writing skills;
