Description

EMEC Ecology is a small and friendly consultancy with a wildlife-focused

approach whose profits are donated annually to our parent organisation,

the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust. We are seeking two Placement Students

to join us for one year, from October 2019 until September 2020. The role

will involve a range of ecological surveys and related work ranging from

supporting great crested newt and bat surveys to drafting reports. The role

will offer hands on experience in a range of survey techniques for protected

species and Phase-1 habitats, as well as knowledge and understanding of

tendering, client liaison and report writing within a busy consultancy.

We are looking for students that are currently studying ecology or a related

subject at university and have the option of a year in industry (typically

our students are between their second and third years of an undergraduate

degree). The ideal candidate will have good interpersonal skills, a high

level of literacy and numeracy, excellent attention to detail and will be

computer literate. Candidates must have an interest in wildlife, enjoy working

outside as well as in the office and have a willingness to work some anti-social

hours.

A driving licence is desirable (with 1 year post-test experience) although

candidates are not expected to own a car. Experience of surveys and knowledge

of British Wildlife, experience of working in an office environment and

a student CIEEM membership are all desirable.

The skills and experience gained from such a placement are highly desirable

to employers looking to appoint staff in ecology and conservation jobs.

We have been supporting placement students since 2013 and all graduates

have then gone on to secure permanent jobs in the sector.

If you are interested in this role we would love to hear from you. Please

send a CV and covering letter to richardanderton@emec-ecology.co.uk or contact

Richard on 0115 964 4828 for an informal chat. Closing date for applications

is 3rd December 2018 and interviews will be held in Nottingham in December.
