Conservation Officer for the LIFE+ “Safeguarding the Lesser White-fronted Goose Fennoscandian population in key wintering and staging sites within the European flyway”

The Conservation Officer of the LIFE Project is responsible for the scientific and technical part of the conservation actions of HOS in the project areas (Lake Kerkini, Lake Ismarida, Delta Evrou), in cooperation with Project Manager and the HOS staff.
The Conservation Officer will be based in Thessaloniki and will have his/her own vehicle.

Specific duties

The Conservation Coordinator is responsible in cooperation and under the guidance of the Project Manager, to coordinate the following actions according to the approved project proposal:

  • Implementation of the Smart Patrol System
  • Monitoring of the Lesser White fronted Goose population and other relevant parameters
  • Compilation of the National Action Plan for the Lesser White fronted Goose
  • Cooperation with the LIFE project partners

 

Requirements

ESSENTIAL

  • Undergraduate and/or postgraduate qualification in environmental discipline
  • Proven record of knowledge of bird and wetland ecology
  • 3 years minimum previous work experience in nature management
  • Experience in field data collection and management
  • Excellent written and verbal language skills in Greek and English
  • Driving license

 

Desirable

  • Knowledge on the biology and ecology of the Lesser White fronted Goose
  • Knowledge on GIS applications
  • Knowledge on environmental and hunting legislations
