Description  

The post presents the opportunity to work on some of the county’s most important wildlife sites, and enhance valuable skills in the development of nature reserves and their visitors.  

The Broads South Reserves Assistant will be based at Upton Broad and Marshes Nature Reserve and will have the opportunity to work at other NWT reserves particularly within the Bure and Ant river valleys.  The role includes assisting on a variety of tasks to deliver management plan prescriptions including fen mowing, scrub management, water level management, monitoring of wildlife and habitats, stock handling and maintenance of infrastructure. 

The successful candidate will have a good basic knowledge of wildlife conservation and habitat management techniques.  Good communication skills are essential, both with colleagues and members of the public, as is the ability to work as part of a team in managing these important sites.  The successful candidate will have been trained in the use of tractors and chainsaws, have experience of working on a nature reserve or similar and experience of maintaining tools and equipment.  Experience and/or training in livestock handling, brushcutter, ATV, pesticide use, relevant tractor related implements and first aid would be an advantage.
