We are looking for a post-doctoral scientist with a proven knowledge of community ecology to work within a team of 30 ecologists researching solutions to pressing environmental challenges.
Main Duties
We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative scientist to a join research team that undertakes large-scale and long-term field studies and uses national datasets to devise solutions to mitigate impacts of environmental change on biodiversity and ecosystems. You will work on existing projects and develop your own areas of research in collaboration with a broad range of scientists within CEH. In particular, you will be working on the Wessex BESS project (http://www.brc.ac.uk/wessexbess/) linking biodiversity change to ecosystem services using field data, national data and models and on new projects covering restoration ecology, ecology of agroecosystems, and the resilience of biodiversity and ecosystems.
Skills Required
The successful candidate will come from an ecological background working on environmental change issues, but must be able to demonstrate strong quantitative and field ecology skills.
- You will have a PhD in a relevant field or similar scientific experience.
- The ability to run projects, design field experiments, and construct and undertake statistical analyses, in R, is essential. Some experience in manipulating and analysing long-term and large scale spatial datasets is also desirable, and taxonomic skills for some key UK taxa would be beneficial.
- The candidate must also have a track record of research in an area of community relevant to CEH’s Science Strategy (found on www.ceh.ac.uk) , and demonstrate innovative ideas and a developing publication record.
