PPR is recruiting another strong addition to its sustainability team at PPR HOME

Recognizing that sustainability is rapidly becoming a business imperative, presenting opportunities as well as challenges, the PPR Group has created a new sustainability initiative, PPR HOME, to ensure its continued success over the long term. This initiative will embody PPR’s commitment to reinforcing the economic, social and ecological foundations that support its businesses and the planet.  PPR HOME provides a hub of technical support to the brands within the PPR Group and is organized along four programmatic themes: Leadership, Creativity, Humanity and Ecology.

 

In this context, PPR HOME has created a high-performance team and is recruiting a COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST to actively help steer its progammatic theme on Humanity.

 

Mission

 

The Community Development Specialist will work with other technical specialists in PPR’s sustainability programme and staff within the brands to deliver the agreed outcomes, targets and milestones of PPR’s Creative Sustainability Strategy.

 

Main duties and responsibilities

 

His/her main role will have elements, which include the following responsibilities, both internal to PPR and its brands and externally in terms of the Group’s larger spheres of operation:

 

  • Collaborating with others on the team to develop a portfolio of initiatives and investments, which:

-          ensure the social and economic wellbeing of communities reliant on, or producing, the primary resources used by PPR and the integrity of the environments they rely on

-          enhance the synergies between development needs and biodiversity conservation wherever possible

  • Helping PPR’s brands to identify opportunities to work in partnership with individuals or local communities (close to home or in distant places), especially those at the bottom-of-the-pyramid, on social business opportunities, notably those which best link to the Group’s core businesses
  • Identifying and harnessing contributions from the existing skills within the PPR Group to assist social business partners in gaining the necessary skills to become successful social entrepreneurs; establishing and running viable enterprises
  • Working to ensure that all raw materials used in PPR products are sourced from socially, environmentally and economically sound operations
  • Helping PPR to establish best practice employment conditions established throughout its brands and to develop common and auditable codes of conduct for key suppliers
  • Contributing to the research and development of a social profit and loss approach, to be integrated with the environmental profit and loss components already under development
  • Helping PPR and its brands to build business practices that enhance the skills and welfare of the people who contribute directly to PPR’s operational success
  • Supervising the work of the PPR Foundation for Women’s Dignity & Rights and its portfolio of projects; identifying opportunities for synergy and full integration of the Foundation within PPR HOME
  • Working within budget allocation forecasts to identify one-off and multi-year initiatives to achieve agreed Humanity-related outcomes, targets and milestones
  • Contributing at the highest level to basic design, budgeting, management and administrative actions in support of the implementation of agreed initiatives and investments in the area of Humanity.

 

Candidate Requirements

 

  • Experience in the theory and practice of sustainable development, specifically including its links to the sustainable use of natural resources and raw materials
  • Experience in establishing social business and micro-finance opportunities
  • A good understanding and, if possible, experience with important contemporary labour issues around the world
  • Familiarity with “bottom-of-the pyramid” theory and practice would be highly advantageous
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities, accurately assess their feasibility and investment potential and define the requirements for establishing successful profit-generating businesses in partnership with individuals or local communities ;
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing, implementing and managing community development initiatives on the ground
  • Embracing the key principles of PPR’s value system: Fair, Honest, Positive, Creative
  • Established and current networks in the realm of sustainable development, social business donors, financiers and practitioners on the ground
  • Familiarity with the work of the PPR Foundation for Women’s Dignity & Rights
  • An ability to mobilise the human potential within PPR and its branches to further the objectives and outcomes of PPR HOME in the realm of community development
  • Nationality is open but impeccable English language skills are mandatory; familiarity with other cultures and languages a distinct advantage
  • Notably, the community development work of PPR will not focus in the area of human health.

 

The Community Development Specialist will be based inParisat PPR Group Headquarters.
