Description

We are looking for a highly motivated communicator who is passionate about protecting the environment and wants to make a real difference as part of a small, committed conservation charity.  You will have the communications’ skills to tell our story around protecting wild fish, rivers and water life, liaising directly with our campaign managers and science team.  You will have digital comms experience - perhaps as part of a larger team at the moment - but now you want to take more responsibility in a small, exciting and influential team.

Salmon & Trout Conservation (S&TC) is the only overtly campaigning wild fish charity based in the UK.  We are a small charity with big ambitions, and we are looking for someone who shares our conservation values and is able and willing to grow with us.   Our work is science and data-led and our goal is for UK waters to support abundant and sustainable populations of wild fish and all other water-dependent wildlife. We operate throughout the UK and North Atlantic region, influencing government policy, industrial practice and individual behaviour to produce measurable improvements to the state of our water environments.

The primary responsibilities of the Communications Manager will be:

  • To manage S&TC’s media content and digital channels with the aim of encouraging individuals, business and Government to support our main objective of achieving sustainable populations of wild fish and the habitats in which they live.
  • To provide timely and strategic communications advice to support our campaigns aimed at protecting water quality, quantity and fish stocks.
  • To support fundraising initiatives which help drive memberships and donations.

Person Specification

You will be a creative communicator able to work within a small, dedicated environmental charity team, confident in managing your own time and workload.  You will be proactive and innovative on behalf of S&TC, helping to drive forward our campaigns and telling our story.

You may be a graduate with experience of designing and managing strategic communications. Perhaps you are already in an environmental charity team, or have some graduate marketing / communications experience, but now feel the time is right to strike out and take on more responsibility within a sector you feel passionate about, and a role which gives you excellent scope for growth and application of your skills.

You will have;

  • Experience in developing and implementing digital communications programmes,
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience in creating content, such as media releases, articles, blog posts and crafting both external and internal communications for a range of audiences;
  • Experience with:
  • Managing and growing social media platforms – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc
  • Microsoft Office packages
  • WordPress and Mailchimp
    • Social media software management
    • Google Analytics

In return, we offer a rare and exciting opportunity to really make a difference in the increasingly relevant conservation NGO charity space. You will work a 35-hour week in a beautiful rural location close to Salisbury.  Above all, this is your chance to establish yourself as a highly influential environmental communicator and have an incredible impact on our mission, story and success as conservationists.

Application Process

Please respond in the first instance by emailing your CV to paul@salmon-trout.org  enclosing a covering letter which directly addresses both the communications and the conservation aspects of the role.

Closing time/date - 23.59 on Friday March 1st 2019. APPLICATIONS WITHOUT A COVER LETTER WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
