Description

Global Canopy is a data-driven think tank that targets the market forces destroying nature. We do this by improving transparency and accountability. We provide innovative open-access data, clear metrics, and actionable insights to leading companies, financial institutions, governments and campaigning organisations worldwide.

Trase is jointly led by SEI and Global Canopy with many additional partners and close collaborators. The Trase team is made up of over 30 individuals, located in nine countries, brought together by enthusiasm, curiosity and drive. Trase is a pioneering sustainability data and intelligence platform that reveals the connections between consumers, producers and investors, as well as the environmental and social impacts linked to global supply chains. The Trase approach draws on vast sets of production, trade, customs and financial data, for the first time laying bare the flows of globally-traded commodities – such as palm oil, soya, and beef at scale, as well as the flows of capital used to finance this trade.

This role is central to the delivery of Trase’s strategy for the next 5 years. Working as part of the Impact team within Trase, alongside colleagues responsible for content production and those engaging directly with Financial Institutions and Governments, you will take responsibility for coordinating all aspects of Public Relations - press, media, events, promotion and publicity. Our work, to raise our profile and reach our target audiences through multipliers and amplifiers, is aligned with and informed by our engagement strategy. Our communications work is purposeful, targeted and and evaluated for its contribution to our strategic aims - rather than Opportunity To See numbers or the number of pieces placed.

To be successful in this role, these are the things that will matter the most:

  • Writing - able to create compelling and concise written pieces both from scratch and from detailed technical information, with accuracy and creativity.

  • Planning - able to create communications plans for the release of new data sets, to share new insights, or in response to external events, which deliver on the priorities and strategic approach of the project

  • Engage and influence - able to develop and maintain relationships with key individuals and organisations including journalists and partner organisations

  • Decision making - able to make sound tactical decisions on the right public relations approach to ensure our external communications work remains tightly aligned with our strategy for engagement and impact

  • Innovative  - able to bring new ideas and approaches to the table, think creatively and challenge assumptions

At Global Canopy, we value diversity and inclusion. You can read our diversity statement on our website. We encourage applications from all backgrounds and are committed to having a team with a diverse set of skills, experiences and abilities. We are committed to reducing systemic barriers in our recruitment processes. We strongly encourage those from diverse backgrounds to apply and not self-reject based on the listed criteria in the job pack.

Global Canopy works on issues of tropical deforestation. We are particularly interested in strengthening our team to include those with a background from forest regions such as Latin America and South East Asia. We would welcome applications from people from these regions and we will sponsor visas or consider a fully remote work arrangement.

Global Canopy is an inclusive employer and accommodations will be made to allow anyone who requires additional support to apply for this role. Please get in touch with us if you require any additional support.
