Maidstone, Kent, United Kingdom

The Environment Act 2021 has resulted in significant change to how biodiversity is dealt with at the local government level and no more so than through the introduction of Local Nature Recovery Strategies.

The Making Space for Nature in Kent and Medway project will develop this important strategic document for the county. The Strategy will agree and map our most valuable areas for nature, priorities for its recovery, and opportunities for wider environmental benefits. It will be collaborative and locally led, with a large emphasis on stakeholder engagement.

As responsible authority, Kent County Council is looking to assemble a dynamic team to deliver this landmark piece of work.

Although the Coastal and Marine Officer role will be wider than the Local Nature Recovery Strategy, much of the post’s initial time will be spent leading on the development of the coastal and marine elements of the Kent and Medway Strategy, ensuring that priority areas and actions to recover marine biodiversity are identified in consultation with all relevant stakeholders.  As such, they will be a key member of the Making Space for Nature project team and will be instrumental in ensuring that the strategy provides for the iconic coastal and marine habitats of Kent. We’re looking for an individual who understand the dynamic nature of coastal and marine habitats and the complexity of the many stakeholders managing and operating in this environment.

For the Making Space for Nature in Kent and Medway project team, we are also currently advertising for a Landowner Officer, a Local Government Officer and a Making Space for Nature Officer.
