This exciting and challenging role is designed for a versatile lawyer to join both our new Climate Damage and Company Financial projects, within the now well established Climate Litigation team.  The role will help to advance our work in using the law in two areas: first, to prevent and provide redress for damage to individuals and communities resulting from climate change, and second, to change corporate and investment behaviour in relation to the management of climate risk. The successful candidate will be required to analyse the relevant legal, policy, scientific and political terrain and identify opportunities for developing strategic litigation and other legal interventions with aim of achieving this objective.

Funding for this position is initially for one year with and the role is based in ClientEarth’s London office.

About you

The successful candidate will be a solicitor or barrister qualified in England and Wales, will have a demonstrated track record in litigation and will be ready to contribute to strategic legal thinking, advocacy and creative problem solving in a public interest law setting. You will also have a strong understanding of the common law of tort (including nuisance and negligence as well as relevant concepts of private international law) and/or a strong background in financial or investment law and the wider legal frameworks governing the regulation of and legal liabilities affecting companies and institutional investors based in the UK. More generally, you will be highly organised, a strategic thinker, able to apply legal skills creatively, an excellent communicator and comfortable conveying complex ideas to a wide variety of audiences. You are committed to environmental issues, social justice and to urgent action on climate change.
