Climate Change Analyst – Buildings and Industry

This post is in the CCC secretariat team responsible for analysis on buildings, industry and bioenergy. The team comprises a Team Leader, three Senior Analysts and one Analyst (this post). The role is suitable for trained economists, operational researchers and analysts in other areas (statistics, natural science, social science).

The Committee has an ongoing work programme relating to emissions reduction from buildings and industry. This includes feeding into our assessment of progress in our statutory annual reports to Parliament, in which there is the potential to influence thinking, both within Government and more widely, on the direction of decarbonisation policy in the UK. We are building towards an evidence and analysis base to underpin the Committee’s advice on a net-zero ambition, following the Paris Agreement, along with the recommendation in 2020 on the level of the sixth carbon budget (covering 2033-37).

On bioenergy, we are working towards publication of a report in Autumn 2018, alongside a parallel report on hydrogen, with joint-analysis planned on competing and complementary uses across the economy. These reports will also be important inputs to our analysis for the sixth carbon budget.

To support this, the Committee on Climate Change is seeking an Analyst to help deliver its work in these areas. The role requires a hands-on approach with the ability to undertake all tasks that fall under the broad remit. It will involve employing a range of quantitative and qualitative analytical approaches; familiarity with using Excel spreadsheets for data analysis is essential, and there will be opportunities for more complex modelling.
