Description

Global Action Plan is a dynamic environmental charity working with businesses, schools, NHS trusts and communities to help them reduce their carbon impact and become more sustainable. We have been fostering sustainable behaviour change for over 20 years, and our mission is to inspire, motivate and equip people with practical and creative solutions, taking everybody on a transformative journey to more sustainable living.

As part of the Catalyst Programme, we are looking for five people to join our team for a 12- month, fixed-term role as a Programme Assistant. The role will involve working with our partner organisations to help deliver our behaviour change projects, through engaging staff and encouraging uptake of positive environmental actions.

We are looking for individuals who are self-motivated, passionate and committed to encouraging more sustainable lifestyles. You should:

  1. Have successfully completed the Catalyst 3-day training course;
  2. Be adaptable and flexible;
  3. Be highly organised;
  4. Have good written and verbal communication skills;
  5. Be a confident and friendly speaker;
  6. Be able to communicate complex ideas clearly;
  7. Be happy and confident to work on your own but also able to work well as part of a team;
  8. Have a clear picture of how the time at GAP could help you in your future life.

The role would be perfect for someone who is looking to start their career in the charity, NGO or environmental sector. Prior experience or academic qualifications are not required and the year will involve a high level of personal development support so we are seeking applicants who have the potential to really grow whilst carrying out the required tasks of the role.

However, we are seeking individuals who can demonstrate their commitment to GAP’s organisational aims and can also show how the wider knowledge, skills & experiences they can bring to GAP would help our clients as well making them good ‘Catalysts’ for positive change in the future.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working within GAP you will be acting as a regular member of staff as a ‘Project Assistant’. This is a varied and ‘hands-on’ role. Whilst the exact projects you work on will depend on the work underway within GAP through the year as well as your skills & experience; you can expect to be involved in some or possibly all of the following:

  1. Assisting with delivering staff engagement programmes at clients’ sites;
  2. Conducting baseline & post-programme surveys of environmental behaviours;
  3. Data collection and analysis;
  4. Supporting the delivery of social media & communications campaigns;
  5. Carrying out basic energy audits for clients’ premises (e.g. schools);
  6. Inputting to the design of new programmes;
  7. Managing the logistics for and supporting the delivery of GAP’s “EcoInteractives” programme;
  8. Training clients’ staff in how to reduce their environmental impact;
  9. General office administrative and support activities;
  10. Supporting internal GAP training and development.

At least 10-15% of the time in the role will be spent on personal development, training and administration. Whilst the role is largely a supporting one in the first instance; as previous participants in the Catalyst programme have developed their skills, knowledge and confidence, they have often found themselves taking greater responsibility for delivering work to clients and working independently
