The Irish Green Building Council is seeking a highly motivated individual to join us, to help us mainstream Green Building in Ireland.

 

Salary range – €40,000 – €45,000 comensurate with skills and experience.

 

We seek a senior staff member who can help us grow the IGBC, complementing our existing technical knowledge skills with skills to enable us to increase the level of engagement and participation of our members and the wider industry.

 

The role of the IGBC Business Development Manager is broad, as you are joining a small staff and you will be expected to work on a wide range of activities and projects. However your key role is to motivate our membership and the broader industry to engage with and participate in achieving our agenda. You will liase directly with the Executive Director and Board of the IGBC to grow the Irish Green Building Council into a powerful advocacy and capacity-building organisation affecting transformative change in the industry over the next ten years. The successful candidate must have a high degree of flexibility and be eager to work hard in the small executive of a young organisation within modest budgets.

 

 

 

Personal attributes

 

You have considerable experience and a track record in successfully engaging stakeholders and members to active participation. You are a natural networker, extrovert and highly articulate and persuasive both verbally and in writing. You have excellent, grammatically correct written and spoken English.

 

You are passionate about sustainability and want a career where you can make a real difference.  You can grasp complex technical issues and make them understandable to non-technical people. You understand brand and marketing and want to be part of developing an emerging organisation from the ground up. You are comfortable working on your own with minimal supervisory input and have excellent project management and time management skills for multiple projects.

 

 

 

Professional attributes

 

Ideally, you have a background in marketing, public advocacy, membership organisations or another related area. You understand how to build the profile of an organisation. Ideally this would be in an area related to the built environment; but this is not essential, provided you can demonstrate credibly that the skills are transferrable.

 

You should have a good knowledge of sustainable development and the built environment. You have at least a 3rd level primary degree in a related discipline. Ideally you understand the issues to do with energy retrofit and renovation. You have at least seven years work experience. You are comfortable with chairing and directing meetings and encouraging participation. You have the ability to write clear well structured reports of the outputs of these meetings.

 

 

 

Terms and Conditions

 

This is initially a full time two year contract. One of your key projects is the two year European funded project Build Upon*. You will be working in the offices of the Irish Green Building Council, currently at 63 Lower Mount St, Dublin 2 but soon moving to a new office in central Dublin.

 

 

 

*Build Upon

 

This EU project aims to create a process to engage with stakeholders across the entire construction property and social sector and in 12 member states to help Governments across Europe develop the ambitious long term renovation strategies required by Article IV of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive. IGBC leads one of the work packages.

 

 

 

Responsibilities will include

 

  • Engaging externally with the stakeholders identified as critical to the success of the Build Upon Project to involve key social, industry and civil organisations in the creation of Government policy for the deep energy renovation of all our Building Stock.
  •  Assisting Policy research and report writing
  • Leading advocacy by developing relationships with key media outlets
  • Developing policy updates and policy digests for IGBC members
  • Leading engagement internally to motivate and activate our membership. Making sure that we are meeting their needs in terms of what we are doing and the services we should be providing to assist them.
  • Leading engagement externally to increase membership including finding and following leads. Creation of leads and nurturing of relationships to bring on board new members.
  • Creation of an active schedule of relevant events for our members in conjunction with Board and Executive Director.

 

 

 

Desired Skills and Experience

 

  • Excellent communication skills – face-to-face, telephone, email and online
  • Superb and proven networking skills
  • Demonstrated experience and success in a previous role.
  • Excellent judgment on motivations for different organisations to be members.
  • Excellent research and report writing skills
  • Experience of organising and facilitating stakeholder workshops and meetings.
  • 3rd level primary qualifications in a relevant discipline which could include public affairs, politics, marketing etc
  • Excellent grammatically correct written and spoken English.
  • Minimum seven years work experience in relevant area.
  • Good project management skills
  • A good understanding of social media and IT technology sufficient to work with limited support.
  • Creativity and ability to develop or change strategies as required.
  • Presentation skills

 

Desirable

  • Strong interest and understanding of the construction, property or energy retrofit industry or ability to learn quickly.
  • Strong interest in sustainability
  • Capacity to understand European and Irish  policy in the built environment
  • Experience working in a membership organisation.
