Organisation Overview

Blue Ventures develops locally led approaches to marine management that benefit people and nature alike. By listening and responding to basic needs, we design our models to catalyse and sustain marine conservation, unlocking the potential of coastal communities to manage their resources. We work in places where the ocean is vital to local cultures and economies, and are committed to advancing the rights of small-scale fishers throughout the coastal tropics.

Summary Job Description

As part of our work supporting broader adoption of locally led marine and fisheries management initiatives in low income tropical coastal contexts, Blue Ventures intends to promote good enabling policies globally whilst also facilitating shared learning exchanges between communities and supporting organisations. Blue Ventures is undertaking research to map the distribution of existing initiatives and government policies in the Western Indian Ocean and the Coral Triangle. This research will assist Blue Ventures in developing a comprehensive understanding of the examples of supported and enabled local marine management in these key geographies.

We are currently recruiting a research intern to work on collecting, collating and managing information on locally led tropical marine conservation initiatives and government policies. The role will be based within Blue Ventures’ UK-based research team, working closely with field colleagues across the Western Indian Ocean and Coral Triangle. This is a full-time role based in Blue Ventures’ Bristol office for three months, with the possibility for extension, and will report to our Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Officer.

We are looking for an individual who is open to new ideas and embraces innovation, who can demonstrate experience of building and managing data systems. Assessment of applications will include candidates’ alignment with BV’s core values and mission to support human rights-based approaches to marine conservation and fisheries management.

Application Process
