Can you help The Wildlife Trust create bigger, better and more joined-up wildlife sites across the Birmingham & Black Country Nature Improvement Area?

Since 2012 we’ve worked with our many partners and more than 2,000 volunteers to improve over 100 sites for people and wildlife. Our approach of working with local community groups on areas of public open space has seen over 40 new meadows created, 103 hectares of woodland enhanced and many kilometres of watercourses restored.

The new Nature Improvement Area Project Officer will work with local community groups to undertake habitat creation and enhancement projects. These may be the creation of a new meadow, the restoration of an area of heathland or the enhancement of a young woodland.

Applicants should have practical experience of habitat management and of working with volunteers, and should also have good plant and animal identification skills. The successful applicant will need to be qualified to a minimum of HND or Degree level in a relevant discipline, and be competent at keeping records and reporting on progress.

Enthusiastic about Birmingham & the Black Country and its rich landscape, you will have a sound knowledge of the concept of landscape-scale conservation and the principles of ecology and nature conservation.

A good understanding of IT, a full current UK driving licence and access to your own car are also required.

More information about the Birmingham and Black Country Nature Improvement Area, including case-studies of previous projects and resources, is available on our website at www.bbcwildlife.org.uk/NIA.
