Description

Do you have excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a wide variety of volunteers and stakeholders? Are you organised, flexible and committed to customer service?

Are you interested in biological recording?

Would you like to join the small team of ecologists and information specialists who run Thames Valley Environmental Records Centre (TVERC)?

About us

TVERC collects, analyses and shares biodiversity and geodiversity information in Berkshire and Oxfordshire in order to help people make sound decisions about how to develop and manage land sustainably, where to direct wildlife conservation work and for scientific education and research. See www.tverc.org

About the role

We need an enthusiastic and organised person to support the volunteer recording network to increase the quality and quantity of ecological and environmental data recording in Oxfordshire and Berkshire and to facilitate data-sharing with TVERC by liaising with existing volunteer recorders and volunteer recording groups.

Your main tasks will be to coordinate data agreements and exchanges with voluntary recording groups, recruit, train and support volunteers to undertake data management (using Excel and GIS), organise and attend relevant events to promote data-sharing and volunteering with TVERC, and provide practical and project-specific advice to external organisations on data collection, collation and management.

About you

You have a strong interest in wildlife and nature with a curiosity for the biodiversity of our region.

You love working with people and helping them to achieve their goals.

The ability to communicate effectively within the team and to deliver an excellent service to our customers is essential. As a skilled communicator you will be confident to liaise with a wide range of both volunteer and professional recorders and stakeholders.

You will be well organised and flexible in your work, as well as being independent.

Good IT skills are required particularly to help the recording community capture and share good quality data. Some knowledge and experience of GIS is needed.
