The British Antarctic Survey (BAS), part of the Natural Environment Research Council, aims to undertake a world-class programme of scientific research, and to sustain for the UK an active and influential regional presence and a leadership role in Antarctic affairs. We are currently seeking a biological data manager to work at our modern complex of offices on the outskirts of Cambridge.

You will be based in the Polar Data Centre and you will have a dual role with half of your time spent working on a project funded by the Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands to help archive and provide access to their fishery and environmental data sets and half working to improve the management of British Antarctic Survey biological datasets. This is a very diverse role which will allow you to gain experience working with a wide variety of data and collections including predator tracking data, marine cruise data, fisheries data and herbarium specimens.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person with an ability to learn quickly and a high level of attention to detail. You will need a biological/environmental science background and experience of working with complex biological datasets. You need to be able to rapidly understand new datasets - what the data are, and how, and why, they were collected, and be good at spotting errors or quality issues in datasets. You must be able to prioritise tasks, clearly report progress and have the ability to work as a team member and independently with minimal supervision.

Qualifications: Degree or higher in a biological/environmental subject area.

Duration: The post is a part-time fixed term appointment for 4 years at 16 hours /week (43% of a full-time post).

Salary: Salary will be in the range of £22,224 to £24,112 per annum pro rata. We offer a generous benefits package including a defined salary pension scheme, free car parking, flexible working hours and 30 days annual leave pro rata.
