Description  

The Route to Zero (R20) team will be the Council’s key focal point for enabling action in its ambition to reach net zero carbon by 2030 or as soon thereafter as a just transition allows. A brand-new team fully endorsed by Council leaders; this is a unique opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the 2020s is the decade of delivery of emissions reduction at scale. With a wide range of roles to be secured in this critical new team, we’re seeking individuals passionate about climate change and sustainability who bring new skills from other sectors, as well as practitioners with comprehensive technical and professional experience.

Working across all City Council departments, fostering existing external relations and facilitating new public-private sector partnerships to build investment and delivery capacity; collaboration and co-creation will sit at the heart of the R20 approach. The R20 team will inspire, drive and secure exciting new opportunities that will lead to the significant scale of growth in energy efficiency, decarbonisation and behaviour change required to achieve 2030 ambitions.

The Assistant Portfolio Officer – Route to Net Zero Carbon will support the Route to Zero (R20) team in the development, management and monitoring of a long-term portfolio of projects and initiatives to support BCC in achieving its carbon reduction commitments. A proactive and highly organised individual with a keen interest in environmental sustainability and experience of capturing and managing qualitative and quantitative data across a wide range of projects, they will be responsible for managing the R20 monitoring database and risk register, supporting ongoing project performance reviews and assist projects in meeting quality management and governance processes are followed.
