We are looking for an Apprentice Warden to join our Land Management team. This role will be ideal for anyone looking to gain experience and work in the environmental sector.  It will give you a variety of relevant experience for roles like: site warden, ranger, estate worker, reserves officer etc.

You will learn about and assist in the practical delivery of tasks related to conservation, access, public engagement, research and surveying, and general land management. This role provides an opportunity for a person to acquire a wide range of skills and experience in countryside management. The Earth Trust provides a unique opportunity to work in a charity that strives to manage its land in a sustainable way that brings together economic imperatives with social demands whilst ensuring that wildlife is not only protected but thrives.

Earth Trust is an environmental learning charity and guardian to some of South Oxfordshire’s most loved green spaces. Our mission is to give access to and experience of the environment through the natural green spaces we manage and together understand what we can do to care for the planet.

The Trust owns 500 hectares of land at Little Wittenham, Oxfordshire within the North Wessex Downs AONB. The land holding at Little Wittenham includes Little Wittenham Wood (a semi-ancient woodland and a SSSI and SAC, predominantly because of the population of great crested newts); a Scheduled Ancient Monument; Paradise Wood (a woodland dedicated to tree and forestry research); grasslands; the Wittenham Clumps; and a conservation farm. In addition the Trust manages Radley Lakes on behalf of RWE NPower and sites in Wallingford and Didcot for South Oxfordshire District Council. The Trust also runs an expanding programme of community engagement activities at all sites.

You will be a key member of the Land Management team assisting with a variety of practical tasks across the Earth Trust sites. You will be working closely with staff and volunteers in delivering some of this work but will also be required to work under your own initiative.

Training to be provided:

  • Intermediate Level Environmental Conservation Apprenticeship Framework
  • Attendance at Sparsholt College Winchester for 6 or 7 block weeks to undertake the Countryside Worker Standard
  • 5 days a week in the workplace
  • Level 2 Diploma in Work Based Countryside Work
  • Functional Skills, if needed
