Description

This is a dynamic and energetic project dedicated to the understanding and conservation of tropical biodiversity, local community development, and proper use of natural resources in the Peruvian Amazon.

Starting off with a week of mammal, bird, amphibian, reptile, insect and plant biology training, including presentations and discussions on tropical forest ecology, species identification (including the all important indicator species), current issues facing the Amazon ecosystem, Payment for Ecosystem Services/REDD+ and wildlife corridors, as well as some orienteering and jungle survival skills to get you ready for the mighty Amazon rainforest, this 40-day internship provides applicants with quality, mentored Neotropical field research experience on an internationally respected field project. Participants leave with an unparalleled understanding of the ecology and conservation challenges of this unique corner of the Amazon rainforest.

Since 1997, we have trained hundreds of people (students and professionals alike) in Neotropical species identification, mist-netting, bird ringing/banding, unbounded line transects, quadrat surveys, remote camera trapping, track identification, wildlife handling and biometric data collection, data entry and analysis, and working with endangered species. This skills-set gives participants the ability to measure and better understand the natural dynamics of wildlife populations, and the impacts of human activities in the Neotropics.

Based in the Tambopata area of south-eastern Peru, arguably the most biologically diverse region on Earth, Fauna Forever offers applicants the opportunity to work alongside and learn from an experienced team of field biologists from Peru and the international community.
