Description

To take the lead on researching, developing, and supporting the delivery of existing and novel Citizen Science approaches to collecting conservation evidence. Through working with the other Evidence Leads, this workstream will ensure that KWTG reaches new audiences, grow the impact of KWT beyond purely nature conservation and into a social sciences perspective, contributing directly to our capacity to achieve Wilder Kent 2030 and position KWT as a true innovator of conservation research growing a more diverse audience of people supporting and taking action to save nature.

Globally and nationally wildlife is in steep decline. We appear to be reaching critical tipping points around the loss of biodiversity as well as around climate change, both being interlinked. Human society cannot prosper without wildlife and healthy ecosystems.

Kent’s wildlife needs to be restored to much higher levels. We can no longer allow common things to become rare. We can only do this by restoring large-scale habitat from degraded land. Doing this will contribute to solving global problems. But we won’t be able to do this unless we publicly aspire to a higher level of impact and show that we can deliver this.

The growing Monitoring & Evidence team at Kent Wildlife Trust is leading on the critical research underpinning our new strategic direction and thinking to respond to threats from climate change and increase resilience for climate adaptation. You will be supporting this vital work through taking a leading role in supporting the delivery of existing and novel Citizen Science approaches to collecting conservation evidence, along with working alongside the other Evidence Leads to develop robust vegetation monitoring protocols to be rolled out across our Estate and new Wilder Grazing sites, supported by a training programme aimed at staff and volunteers.

Ecological Evidence and Citizen Science Lead

In this role, you will take the lead on researching, developing, and supporting the delivery of existing and novel Citizen Science research across KWTG, working with colleagues to develop and grow existing programmes and building relationships with external organisations to seek new and exciting partnerships where appropriate to support out work.

In this role, you will also take the lead on developing monitoring protocols for rolling out on our new Wilder Grazing sites, which are key in informing our approach to conversation grazing and our mechanisms for achieving a Wilder Kent 2030 through the process of wilding. Working within the Monitoring & Evidence team and other departments, you will take the lead in developing and rolling out new vegetation monitoring protocols across key sites within our Estate to response to our adaption to climate change. Finally, to support all the above, you will work across KWTG to roll out a training programme for staff and volunteers.
