ISEAL Alliance is seeking to fill the role of a Communications Manager. ISEAL is the global membership association for sustainability standards that includes many of the leading eco-labelling and certification schemes in the world as its members.  Please find out more about us on our website www.iseal.org. ISEAL’s members are working to show the way to sustainability in a range of sectors and parts of the world. 

The Manager, Communications will play a major role in developing our communications plans and execution, which will support the development of the ISEAL Alliance and its aims. The role will work with the rest of the communications team and with our staff to expand our campaigns and messaging to build awareness and grow ISEAL’s profile globally. 

The portfolio of work will include developing and delivering high quality, creative communications across multiple channels.  The role will lead on elements of the ISEAL communications strategy and also be hands-on in the day-to-day running of the communications activities. The Manager will lead or co-lead on our social media strategy, our media engagement work and our web developments plans, as well as generate a wide range of written communications materials targeted towards businesses, governments, NGOs and other professionals. 

Reporting to the Director, Development & Communications (Toronto based), this position will work in close cooperation with a Communications Assistant, an Events Coordinator, as well as UK based consultants in graphic design, multimedia and web site development.  

The ideal candidate will need to demonstrate solid experience in a varied communications role and, ideally, have a good level of understanding of sustainability issues. Experience in an international NGO setting would be a bonus as would some familiarity with sustainability standards.

This is an exciting and challenging role that provides a great opportunity for the right individual to shape and influence ISEAL’s expanding global position. 

 

Responsibilities:

Production, Projects & Content

  • Work with key stakeholders and staff to develop stories, blogs, articles, factsheets and other creative approaches to bring life to the work and aims of the ISEAL Alliance.
  • Initiate and deliver communications collateral, managing translations, editing, printing and digital distribution.
  • Establish relationships with key creative consultants.
  • Undertake quality control for the ISEAL brand.

Online, Social Media and Marketing

  • Manage and update ISEAL’s website, ensuring up-to-date, accurate and compelling content and stories, and develop and oversee ISEAL’s social media presence.
  • Implement promotional strategy for ISEAL events with particular focus on design, marketing and branding.  
  • Support the development of a communications network of professionals working in ISEAL members’ communications teams. 

Strategy and Planning

  • Contribute to development of ISEAL communications strategy and content strategy and lead appropriate elements that grow awareness and engagement among key stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of agreed communications activities.
  • Lead the development of a new social media strategy at ISEAL in 2015.

Consultant and Vendor Management

  • Supervise a range of communications consultants and vendors that provide additional support and services for ISEAL communications, including graphic designers, printers, writers, PR professionals, translators, and local professionals in emerging markets (Brazil, India and China).

Other

  • Contribute to staff meetings, retreat and other internal meetings with appropriate contents, views and suggestions.
  • Commit to continuously increase knowledge of ISEAL work and the wider context of voluntary standards and sustainability issues.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

 

 

Essential Attributes / Skills /Knowledge

  • An engaging writing style, able to capture ideas and complex messages and make them accessible to a variety of audiences.
  • Significant experience in writing, editing and content production.
  • Substantial work experience in a role focused on communications, particularly sustainability or non-profit communications.
  • Experience working in the Corporate Social Responsibility, environmental, social or developmental sectors.
  • Strong time/process management skills and ability to establish priorities and work to deadlines.
  • Self-motivation and flexibility to deal with a range of tasks in a growing organisation.
  • Knowledge of and experience in working professionally with social media.
  • Familiarity with virtual meeting and presentation tools (e.g. Skype, GoToWebinar).
  • Comfortable with flexible autonomy and having a supervisor based in a remote location.
  • Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in any relevant subject or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.

Additionally desirable

  • Experience working with media outreach, PR, social media, graphic design (particularly Adobe InDesign), video editing, or other communications specialisations.
  • Knowledge of or experience in sustainability standards or certification organisations.
  • Experience working with or managing content for Drupal based web sites or managing a web site development process or project.
  • Experience working/interning/volunteering for an international NGO with staff members based in multiple locations.

 

Other Relevant Information:

Term:                                     This is intended as a long term position with an initial contract of one year

 

Salary band:                       £40,000 – 48,000, depending on experience

 

Working Hours:                 Based on a full time equivalent of 37.5 hours per week. The ISEAL Alliance operates a Flexible Working Policy and is happy to consider applications for flexible working after the relevant qualification period has passed.

 

Status:                                  Exceptional candidates from outside the UK/EEA area, who are not in possession of a valid visa, may be able to apply for a work permit through the Home Office’s points based system for this position.

Location:                              Ideally, this position will be based in London.  However, for exceptional candidates other locations may be considered.

 

International Travel:        The post holder may be required to undertake very occasional amounts of international travel including overnight stays.

 

Annual Leave:                    25 days per annum (including office closure btw Christmas & New Year)
