JNCC, as statutory advisors on nature conservation to the UK Government and the Devolved Administrations, provide specialist technical advice on Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in UK offshore waters to help the UK meet international obligations and national objectives for establishing MPA networks.

JNCC are looking to recruit a full-time and permanent MPA Support Officer in our Aberdeen office to support the diverse work programme of JNCC’s Marine Protected Sites Team. The successful post holder will have a central role in supporting JNCC’s Marine Evidence team and the MPA feature data specialist in the management, processing and effective dissemination of marine datasets, supporting work to maintain Site Information Centres and handling related queries, and supporting wider MPA specialist areas of work as and when required such as improving our provision of offshore MPA conservation advice.

The position advertised would require someone with experience in using Geographic Information System (GIS) software in the management and analysis of biophysical and human activities data, a degree or equivalent qualification in an environmental science (preferably marine), and experience of managing and ensuring the quality assurance of large-scale datasets. Knowledge of the UK’s marine biodiversity and MPA policy and practice is desirable.
