Cley and Salthouse Marshes is Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s oldest and best known nature reserve. It was purchased in 1926 and provided a blue print for nature conservation which has now been replicated across the UK. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, Special Protection Area, Special Area of Conservation and a RAMSAR site. It is internationally recognised as one of the UK’s finest bird watching sites.
Norfolk Wildlife Trust is seeking a suitably experienced conservation professional to manage this spectacular nature reserve. The post will be responsible for planning, organising and implementing management on the reserve in accordance with the approved management plan as well as regular patrolling, visitor liaison and wildlife and habitat monitoring work. The role includes practical conservation work to support Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s other coastal site, Holme Dunes National Nature Reserve.
Candidates will have an excellent knowledge of wildlife conservation especially wetland and coastal habitat management techniques and ecology as well as a comprehensive knowledge of wildlife species, particularly avian. Other essential skills and experience include management of designated land (SSSI, SPA, SAC etc.) and agri-environment schemes, excellent organisation and communication, proven experience of managing budgets and ideally qualifications in the use of tractors, ATV, brushcutter, chainsaw, pesticide application and first aid.
