Capturing our Coast is a Marine Citizen Science partnership programme supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.  MCS is a partner in this exciting programme and is looking for a Project Officer to take this ambitious programme forward.

The Project Officer will contribute to a national marine ecological research programme, addressing questions on the impacts of climate change and other anthropogenic threats to intertidal community structure and biodiversity, and will play a key role in engaging a unique network of citizen scientists in the collection of data.

The post holder will oversee the recruitment, training and support of the volunteers in our region, integrating with the 6 Project Officers located in the partner hubs to ensure consistency in protocol implementation and volunteer training and support.  You will assist in the critical analysis and interpretation of the data you collect, developing progress reports for the funder and writing for publication in high-impact journals. It is likely that you will have a PhD in an area of marine ecology, or other appropriate marine or interdisciplinary science.

Key Skills:
-  Demonstrable experience in field-based experimental ecology
-  Excellent communication skills, able to engage a wide variety of audiences – confident presenting to groups and delivering training sessions
-  Evidence of project management skills – including managing data and budgets
-  Full driving licence and reliable access to own vehicle
-  Able to be flexible with working hours, including some weekend working

The level of ecological science to which the volunteers will be exposed is unprecedented at this scale and the project aims to be an exemplar of partnership working.
