The Ocean Campaign seeks to improve the status of marine ecosystems and wildlife by reducing threats posed by marine plastic pollution, bycatch and commercial exploitation of whales, dolphins and porpoises. To successfully implement campaign strategies, the organisation requires a full-time Senior Ocean Campaigner, based in EIA’s London office.
Main purpose of position
The Senior Campaigner will participate in the planning and execution of campaign activities, with particular focus on marine plastic pollution.
Essential
Knowledge
- Degree or post graduate education in relevant area
- Knowledge of international and European marine and environmental policy, particularly relating to marine plastic pollution
Experience
- Minimum five years of experience of campaigning and advocacy, preferably in the environmental field
- Experience with international, EU and UK policy advocacy and processes, in particular related to marine conservation and the circular economy
- Experience with planning, managing and delivering campaign outputs and workstreams
Skills
- Strong advocacy skills are essential
- Ability to analyse complex social, political, economic and environmental parameters in ways that inform EIA’s work and communications
- Ability to manage and balance multiple workstreams and meet deadlines
- Ability to conduct detailed research projects and tasks
- Ability and willingness to travel, as needed
- Strong interpersonal, communication and time-management skills
- Ability to understand highly technical and scientific issues
- Proven oral and written communication skills
- Flexibility to work as part of a team and independently to meet goals
Other
- Legal right to work in the UK
Desirable
- Fluency in other languages a bonus
