Description

About Cool Earth:

Cool Earth works alongside indigenous villages putting local people back in control with the resources they need to keep their rainforest intact. All our partnerships are community-owned and led. By developing local livelihoods, we end the cycle of deforestation entrenching villages into further poverty.

What this position can offer for you:

  • The chance to be a central player in an exciting, innovative, ambitious, global charity.
  • An opportunity for you to join a Programme team of enthusiastic, forward thinking, team players.
  • To be part of the team delivering our community forest conservation model into the most effective and sustainable means of rainforest protection.
  • The opportunity to work in partnership with indigenous rainforest communities, our in-country teams in Peru and PNG and the smartest technical experts
  • To be an integral part of Cool Earth’s monitoring, evaluation, learning and fundraising work.
  • Support and training opportunities to ensure you are the best in the field.

About the role:

Cool Earth is seeking an early career professional with a passion for all things programme management to join our UK team. In this varied and highly rewarding role you’ll be the key UK contact for our work in Peru. This means working closely with our in-country colleagues to provide management and technical support to our projects, while also supporting how we tell our story through our fundraising and communications.

We firmly believe that working directly with communities is the most effective way to halt rainforest destruction. We want this smart approach to be copied around the world so we’re in the process of putting everything Cool Earth has learnt into an open source Toolbox. As Programme Manager you will have the opportunity to input into making this a reality by feeding into how monitoring and evaluation processes and using what we know and learn and sharing this with others. So you will have the opportunity to work closely with communications and fundraising colleagues to tell the story of the work in Peru and support your programme team colleagues in exploring new partnerships and project opportunities.

Ultimately, we aim for each village partnership to become self-funded within seven years, so we work to build livelihoods to ensure communities earn more from keeping rainforest standing than they would otherwise earn from clearing it – or from Cool Earth. You will have an important role to play in supporting how we achieve this through managing our projects and supporting our teams to always have this sustainable goal in mind.

The successful candidate will be comfortable in working in English and Spanish (verbal and written) and will ideally have a background in conservation and/or development. You will have experience of working on projects and programmes remotely (and if in the field, even better).

You should be a team player that thrives in a lively and hard working environment, ready to work across several teams and to solve problems under tight deadlines. The Programme Manager will report to the UK-based Head of Programmes and be based in our London office with international travel to work with colleagues, partners and field teams. Being a small and dynamic organisation, Cool Earth offers excellent opportunities for further professional development and varied engagement in the organisation.

Application Process

Applicants should apply onlinevia the Cool Earth website below, where a full job description can also be found, by 6th July 2017. Please note that applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and first-round interviews may be conducted with short-listed candidates before the application deadline. All shortlisted candidates will be contacted within one week of the closing date. Please note that as this role has a Spanish speaking requirement, a short interview will be conducted in Spanish.
