Description

Help deliver the Mayor’s vision for an exemplary sustainable world city.

It’s your capital. Be part of it.

London is Europe’s only megacity. Currently home to 8.6 million people, our population is growing by over a 100,000 a year and is expected to hit 11.3 million by 2050. Supporting this growth and making sure everyone benefits from it is a world-class challenge. If you want to be a part of the solution and have the skills and ideas to offer, then this is the job for you.

These roles will be to help support the Mayor in delivering his sustainable development duty, including through providing support to the Mayor’s London Sustainable Development Commission and the delivery of the GLA’s statutory duty on sustainable development. You will focus on current policy issues, particularly those relating to sustainable development, and to participate in relevant research, analysis and project-based policy development and implementation support.

To succeed, you will need a thorough knowledge of sustainable development and experience of implementing sustainability in a political environment, including a successful track record of communicating such complex issues.

You will need strong writing skills, and the ability to ensure that the key policy themes are properly integrated. Strong relationship building, presentation and project delivery skills are essential, and you must be able to operate effectively in a sensitive political environment.

Policy Officer – Sustainable Development (Communication and Engagement)

Fixed term contract or secondment until April 2021

This role will be to help support the Mayor in delivering his sustainable development duty, including through providing support to the Mayor’s London Sustainable Development Commission and the delivery of the GLA’s statutory duty on sustainable development. In particular you will lead on developing the communication and engagement elements of the LSDC‘s work programme as well as the wider SD agenda.

Policy Officer – Sustainable Development (Responsible Procurement)

Fixed term contract or secondment until November 2019

The key objective of this role is ensuring that sustainable procurement is successfully embedded in relevant processes throughout the GLA and that associated actions are carried out. The role will also aim to create increased awareness of the importance of responsible procurement across the organisation. The post holder will help to co-ordinate the Responsible Procurement (RP) policy and action plans to ensure there is a clear line of sight from the Mayor’s Office and the GLA to ensure his environmental priorities are effectively and consistently incorporated across all the RP action plans supporting the work of a central procurement team.

This role will also help to support the Mayor in delivering his sustainable development duty, including through providing support to the Mayor’s London Sustainable Development Commission and the delivery of the GLA’s statutory duty on sustainable development.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and we are happy to consider flexible working arrangements. We would welcome applications from candidates who are seeking part time work as these roles are open to job share.

In addition to a good salary package, we offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days’ annual leave, interest free season ticket loan, interest free bicycle loan, childcare voucher scheme and a career average pension scheme.
