Description

As statutory advisor on nature conservation to the UK Government and the Devolved Administrations, JNCC is looking for a full time Open Data Champion to join the Data Services team based in Peterborough, fixed term for two years.

In recent years, there has been a drive to open up access to key datasets: to stimulate economic growth, improve the quality of our natural environment, facilitate the development of services, along with improvements for social, cultural and environment benefits for all. JNCC now has 1373 datasets published on www.data.gov.uk, and is working across UK governments to improve access to reference data through good information management practice and implementation of technology.

This post will work across JNCC and with external partners to create an environment for change that puts Open Data at the heart of how JNCC does its business. It will help to shape a culture change of staff so that Open Data is part of their way of achieving results. The post will be a Champion for Open Data, highlighting the opportunities it brings, both across JNCC staff and among external partners. In addition, the post will help colleagues to implement changes within their own work areas in order to adopt new principles and realise the benefits.

The post holder will be self-motivated, an excellent communicator with strong project management skills and a good general understanding of the Open Data principles and movement. They will have a background in communications, and proven experience and understanding of good practice around data management. Critically, they will be able to communicate through a range of styles and mediums, and quickly build good relationships with a range of different people, within their own team, across teams, and with external partners.
