We are seeking to employ an assistant ecologist to work within a small but well established team in our Norwich office. The Ecology Consultancy was founded in 1999 and has had a regional office in Norfolk since 2000.

Our current workload includes survey, assessment and mitigation work on a wide variety of projects comprising; housing developments, county-wide local wildlife site reviews, wind farms, solar farms, highway works and infrastructure schemes. Our clients include architects, planning consultants, engineering companies, statutory agencies and local authorities.

We are looking for a confident and positive minded team player who can assist with preliminary ecological appraisals and surveys for reptiles, bats and great crested newts, preferably with previous experience of mitigation projects.

The post will be based at our Norwich office with the main areas of work being Norfolk, Suffolk, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and Essex though work further afield is a possibility and may require overnight stays. The project-based nature of our work means that there will be a requirement to undertake such travel as is necessary to successfully carry out contracts.

Person specification

The Assistant Ecologist will need the following:

Essential

  • An appropriate degree qualification;
  • Experience of preliminary ecological appraisals and reptile, great crested newt and bat surveys;
  • Ability to identify native herpetofauna to species, life stage;
  • Be willing to work during evenings and at weekends;
  • Have a full clean UK driving licence;
  • Good data QA & report writing skills;
  • A valid CSCS card.

 

Desirable

  • A great crested newt survey licence would be a distinct advantage;
  • Experience with other species groups would be an advantage as would the ability to identify habitats and indicator plant species;
  • Experience of mitigation sites;
  • Experience of Ecological Clerk of Works;
  • Bat sound analysis skills;
  • CIEEM Graduate or Associate Membership.
