Based at County Hall, Penrhyn Road, Kingston upon Thames, Surrey, KT1 2DN. This position is a fixed term contract until March 2019 with the possibility to extend.

This post has been designated as a politically restricted post in accordance with the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.

Looking for a new challenge in communications and marketing?

Join our dedicated and award winning team of communications professionals who are constantly delivering new and creative ways of talking to our residents and staff.

Based within the Resident Communications team, which is part of the Surrey County Council (SCC) Central Communications Service, this role will carry out communications and engagement activity on behalf of the Surrey Waste Partnership which is made up of SCC and the 11 district and borough councils in Surrey.

The post holder will work both as part of this team and as part of a virtual Surrey Waste Partnership team which includes colleagues from the SCC waste service and the district and borough councils.

Each year, the partnership manages over half a million tonnes of waste from Surrey homes with collection and disposal costs at around £79m each year. There are targets to reduce this and increase recycling.

To help achieve that you will need to develop and deliver high impact communications activities and integrated campaigns that aim to provide information about waste and recycling services, stimulate a behaviour change or encourage resident participation in shaping services.

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent and have significant experience of working on multi-discipline consumer facing campaigns with demonstrable results. You’ll be an excellent writer with experience in both online and printed publications and have great digital and social media knowledge. You’ll also be proactive, dynamic and energetic and a creative thinker who is able to identify opportunities to build on and add value to your work.

The post is responsible for line managing and developing a junior team member so previous management experience is essential.

This is a hands on job with a critical responsibility for ensuring deadlines are met. So you will also need excellent organisational skills and the ability to effectively manage your time and build strong relationships with internal colleagues and partners at varying levels.
Willingness to developing an understanding of Surrey and its communities will be key; as will an interest in waste and environment issues, local government and the pressures currently faced by local authorities.

For questions that are not covered by the job description please contact the hiring manager Pat Hindley on pat.hindley@surreycc.gov.uk.  Applications HERE.

Closing date: 23:59 on 28th August 2017.

Please note, if access to the GCSX (PSN) network is required for this role, a Basic Disclosure (DBS check) will be required to meet the Government Baseline Personnel Security Standards.

Surrey County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  We want to be an inclusive and diverse employer of first choice reflecting the community we serve and particularly welcome applications from all under represented groups.
